The project of the permanent exhibition of the North Latgale Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage
2008

The aim of the centre’s exhibition is to promote and explain the role of the intangible cultural heritage both in the past and the present. The centre promotes an understanding of the craftsmanship skills and traditions distinctive of the region. The centre not only documents North Latgalian intangible heritage but also partakes in its preservation and promotion.

The exhibition employs different media, showing the diversity and richness of North Latgalian intangible heritage. In a way, our task was to make this heritage tangible in order for it to be exhibited. The centre is not a traditional museum – it is oriented towards an active involvement in the life of the community; that is why the exhibition was developed as an open system that encourages the active participation of visitors in its actualisation.
